Meet Roxanne Schumann, founder and MD of Growing Paper ~ I feel I have a basic understanding of the challenging landscape of being a female business owner in South Africa. Being deeply passionate about people and the environment has given me the sustained motivation to keep on going for the past 13 years. I see solutions instead of problems and have had to implement this mentality many times over to play my part in creating what Growing Paper is today.
In a world that’s often marked by challenges and opportunities, being a woman entrepreneur has given me a unique perspective and a fierce determination to make my mark. My name is Roxanne Schumann, and my journey with Growing Paper has been a testament to the strength, resilience, and creativity that women bring to the business world.
When Nileta Knoetzen and I embarked on the adventure of starting Growing Paper, we had a vision that transcended traditional business ideals. We aimed to create something sustainable, beautiful, and impactful. Little did we know that this path would lead us to redefine success and prove that kindness, innovation, and female leadership could go hand in hand.
As a woman entrepreneur, I found myself breaking through preconceived notions and pushing boundaries. The road wasn’t always easy; stereotypes and biases can be formidable obstacles. However, every challenge we faced was an opportunity to prove that women possess a unique ability to juggle responsibilities, think outside the box, and create nurturing environments within businesses.
The heart of Growing Paper beats with values that are deeply feminine in nature β values that emphasise community, growth, and sustainability. Our commitment to nurturing the local economy, uplifting livelihoods, and forging a sustainable future reflects the interconnectedness that women often bring to their endeavour’s. It’s about creating a legacy that extends beyond profit margins, one that touches lives and leaves the world a better place.
Navigating the path of entrepreneurship as a woman has also meant embracing adaptability. The process of creating our recycled seeded paper products is a testament to this. Our production doesn’t follow a rigid assembly line; it dances to the rhythm of nature. As we faced the unpredictability of weather patterns and environmental shifts, we learned to adjust, to pivot, and to find innovative solutions. This adaptability isn’t just a business strategy; it’s a reflection of the tenacity that women entrepreneurs exhibit every day.
Being a part of Growing Paper isn’t just about running a business; it’s about empowering a community. Providing secure employment and opportunities for growth isn’t just a transaction; it’s an investment in the dreams and aspirations of those around us. It’s a reminder that women excel not just in leadership roles but in nurturing environments that foster personal and collective development.
As we continue on this journey, we remain committed to the principles of the circular economy. We believe that by adopting sustainable practices and constantly adjusting to the natural elements, we can make a real difference. Our story is a testament to the power of perseverance, creativity, and kindness in business.
Lula has given us the peace of mind in having funds available whenever cash flow is an issue, in the form of their revolving capital facility. When a challenging cash flow situation arises, we have the peace of knowledge that we can make use of this facility and repay it within the amount of months of our choice.
To my fellow women entrepreneurs, I say this: Embrace your uniqueness, celebrate your strengths, and never shy away from pushing boundaries. Your journey may be filled with challenges, but remember that each obstacle is an opportunity to rise even higher. The world needs your voice, your ideas, and your leadership.
As I look ahead to the future of Growing Paper, I see endless possibilities. Our commitment to sustainability, kindness, and growth remains unwavering. Every product we create, every life we touch, is a step towards a more compassionate and vibrant world.
So here’s to women entrepreneurs β to the trailblazers, the innovators, the nurturers, and the visionaries. Together, we’re rewriting the narrative, redefining success, and leaving an indelible mark on the entrepreneurial landscape. With each challenge we overcome, each boundary we shatter, we’re paving the way for a more inclusive, resilient, and vibrant future.
